Incur penalty, v.:P. and V. ὀφλισκνειν (absol. or acc. of penalty).
Pay the penalty (for): P. and V. δκην, or pl., διδόναι (gen.), δκην, or pl., τνειν (gen.), δκην, or pl., ἐκτνειν (gen.), or in V. substitute ποινήν or ποινα for δκην, V. also δκας παρέχειν (absol.).
I bid you loose these fetters ere some one pay the penalty: V. χαλᾶν κελεύω δεσμὰ πρὶν κλάειν τινά (Eur., And. 577).
You shall pay the penalty, you shall smart for it: Ar. and V. κλαύσει (fut. of κλάειν), Ar. and P. οἰμώξει (fut. of οἰμώζειν).
Extreme penalties: P. αἱ ἔσχαται ζημίαι.
Assessment of damages: Ar. and P. τμημα, τό.
